My life in Ningbo

I'm Dr. Reddy from India have been working as a post-doctoral researcher at CNITECH for few months before. As an international student, I feel really grateful that I have the opportunity to do post-doctoral studies in nano magnetic materials at division of functional materials and nanodevices, CNITECH. What attracted me to study materials science at the CNITECH initially was its great reputation, lab facilities and provides friendly atmosphere. The materials department in particular, is a well structured community, where students interact via different groups and activities, such as tutorials, workshops and laboratory sessions. The range of activities allows students to build strong friendships, and also to build links with members of staff who are always able to offer help in the different fields of the subject. The division of functional materials and nanodevices has been able to provide all the equipment and facilities I have needed and in particular I have made use of the lab for my research work.

I won a scholarship with CAS, a world-renowned funding organisation, which offers me invaluable work experience helping to strengthen the quality of my research. In my doctoral degree, I was given a lot of experience in conducting experiments as I had limited resources to do, this institute encouraging building on my research skills. I have learnt, and we use more complicated processes and equipment. I have especially enjoyed the lab work. The research groups proved to be very useful for clarifying anything which we found challenging. There is a strong emphasis on academic study; however the institute and the division the most out of their experience by providing opportunities to continue their research activities and experience in the field of materials engineering & Tech.

As materials science is an ever-changing subject it was good to have vast research experience in designing and building materials. The opportunity to work at CNITECH offers me an insight into the working world and a better chance of a job (both research and teaching) in the materials engineering. All the professors are approachable and happy to spend time answering my questions, and I regularly meet my supervisor to discuss any problems.

The reputation of the institute itself is important. Although CNITECH is not at the top of the league tables, it certainly isn't far behind. I imagine employers or people in the industry would think of you differently if you came from a world-renowned university like CNITECH. This institute has received many awards for excellent research and this was something that I looked out for. These were the major reasons which led me to choose to have my post doc research at CNITECH.

Not only is China in particular, Ningbo a brilliant city to study/work in, but it’s also an amazing place to live and along with the history, traditions, culture and social events organised by the people. Overall, I now look forward to progressing to the point where I can engage with and contribute to one of the many high quality research projects and happy to stay and work in China.
